Adopting an
eco-conscious
approach

We’re committed to reducing our impact on the environment. Since 2022, all Kobo Readers have been made with more eco-conscious materials.

Each features an exterior made with:

more than
85%

recycled plastic

including
10%

ocean-bound plastic

These materials help us divert plastic bottles, CDs, DVDs and other waste from our oceans and landfills.

Our more eco-conscious packaging is also magnet-free and made with FSC-certified recycled paper.

Kobo Clara BW, Kobo Clara Colour, and Kobo Libra Colour eReaders are repairable. Learn how to extend their lives at kobo.com/repairability.

Reducing emissions on eReader shipments

This year, we'll offset 100% of the carbon emissions associated
with direct shipments of Kobo eReaders. That's equivalent to:

1B+

smartphones
charged for a year

1,600+

cars taken off the
road for a year

900+

homes a year powered
by reusable energy

To help achieve this, we've partnered with the
Coastal First Nations-Great Bear Initiative on the
Great Bear Forest Carbon Project.

Great Bear balances human well-being with the improved management of the land, distributing carbon credit revenue among the nine First Nation communities who inhabit Haida Gwaii.

Kobo eRecycling Mail-in Program

We offer an eRecycling mail-in option free of charge in Canada and the US. After arriving at a government certified e-waste recycling company, your Kobo eReader will be broken down into re-usable glass and plastic, and the remaining waste is disposed of according to local regulations.

To find out more information about our process in your area, please visit kobo.com/help and click Contact Us.

Outside of Canada or the US?

Consult your municipality, province, or state for information about e-waste facilities. Some retailers who sell Kobo products offer recycling alternatives where you can drop off your eReader.

Important

All data on your Kobo eReader is your responsibility. Please be sure you have backed up and deleted your data from the device before disposal.

Rakuten Kobo will not accept equipment that has been contaminated with substances not normally contained in the Kobo eReader product. You will not be reimbursed for any equipment or accessories sent to the Kobo mail-in recycling program.
